Care For An Active Pregnancy

When you are pregnant and still active, your body is managing two enormous demands at the same time. The biomechanical changes of pregnancy, including shifting center of gravity, increased lumbar lordosis, loosening ligaments, and expanding rib cage, do not stop when you step under a barbell or lace up your running shoes.

Sports medicine chiropractic care for pregnant women means assessing how your body is moving under load, not just at rest.

We are one of the very few providers in DFW who combine sports medicine credentials with dedicated prenatal care for active women, because we believe you deserve the same level of expert care no matter what stage of life you are in.

Webster's Technique

The Webster's Technique is a specific chiropractic analysis and adjustment that addresses sacral misalignment and the tension it creates in the surrounding ligaments and muscles of the hips and pelvis.

During pregnancy, this misalignment can create an imbalance and cause the surrounding soft tissue to tighten. This imbalance can contribute to low back pain, round ligament pain, hip discomfort, and a pelvis that is not in the best position for baby, labor, and delivery.

Common Issues We Treat During Pregnancy

  • Low back pain. The shift in your center of gravity increases lumbar demand from the first trimester onward.
  • Round ligament pain. Sharp, pulling pain on one or both sides of your lower abdomen, triggered by quick movement or position change.
  • Hip and SI joint pain. Relaxin loosens every ligament. The sacroiliac joint often bears the brunt of that instability.
  • Pubic symphysis pain. Deep ache at the front of your pelvis with walking, climbing stairs, or rolling over in bed.
  • Rib pain and mid-back tightness. As your rib cage expands and your thoracic spine shifts.
  • Sciatica. A proper assessment identifies where the compression is coming from.
  • Carpal Tunnel. Due to the increased relaxin hormone, the ligaments of the wrist can create tension and cause numbness and aching into the hands.

FAQs

Q: Is chiropractic care safe during pregnancy?
A: Yes. Prenatal chiropractic care is safe throughout pregnancy, including the third trimester, when performed by a provider trained in prenatal techniques.

Q: Can I keep training while getting prenatal chiropractic care?
A: For most active patients, yes. Your provider will give you specific guidance on what to continue, what to modify, and what to watch for.

Q: How often do I need to come in?
A: That depends on what the assessment finds, your trimester, and your activity level. Your treatment plan will give you a clear recommendation from the first visit.

Q: What is the difference between prenatal chiropractic and a regular adjustment?
A: Prenatal chiropractic uses positioning and techniques appropriate for a pregnant body. You will not be placed face-down. The Webster Technique is specific to prenatal care and is not part of a standard adjustment.
