Sports Medicine for Active Women and Female Athletes

As a sports medicine chiropractor with a clinical focus on active women and female athletes, Dr. Colleen brings a training-specific lens to every assessment. That means understanding how injuries present differently in women. How hormonal cycles affect ligament laxity and injury risk. How the demands of HIIT classes, weight lifting, distance running, and team sports each create specific injury patterns that require specific approaches.

We are proud to be one of the only Dallas Clinics combining sports medicine credentials with this level of focus on active women.

Common Conditions We Treat

  • Running injuries. IT band syndrome, shin splints, plantar fasciitis, stress reactions, hip flexor pain, and knee pain.
  • Lifting and strength training injuries. Low back pain from deadlifts or squats, shoulder impingement, hip pain from heavy loading, wrist and elbow issues.
  • Hip and pelvic pain. SI joint pain, hip flexor tightness, piriformis syndrome, and labral irritation.
  • Shoulder and neck pain. From cycling, swimming, or upper-body training.
  • Ankle and foot issues. Sprains that did not heal fully, plantar fasciitis, chronic ankle instability.
  • Overuse injuries. The injuries that build quietly over months of training and then stop you suddenly.
  • Pregnancy-related sports injuries. Round ligament pain, pelvic girdle pain, and load management throughout an active pregnancy.

Sports Injury Rehab and Return to Training

Getting out of pain is just the start of your care but getting you back to your training at full capacity and preventig future injuries is our actual goal.

At PRIME Sports Medicine, your rehab plan is built around what you are returning to. A marathon runner and a competitive weightlifter with the same hip injury need different progressions. Your plan reflects your sport, your competition timeline, and the specific demands your training places on the injured area.

The PRIME Method

Every treatment plan at PRIME Sports Medicine follows our signature three-step approach.

FAQs

Q: Is sports medicine chiropractic different from regular chiropractic?
A: Yes. Sports medicine chiropractic combines chiropractic assessment with a focus on how the body performs under athletic demand. The goal is not just to feel better, but to perform better and reduce the likelihood of the same injury happening again.

Q: Do I need a referral?
A: No referral is needed. Chiropractic care in Texas is accessible without a physician referral.

Q: Can I keep training while receiving care?
A: For most patients, yes. Your provider will give you specific guidance on what to keep doing, what to modify, and what to avoid.

Q: Do you treat old injuries?
A: Yes. Chronic injuries, old sprains that never fully resolved, and compensations that built up over years of training are all within scope.
